No work was done on Monday or Tuesday. It rained a good bit on Tuesday,
so I am assuming that is why no one was here working. Wednesday morning
the deck guys were here bright and early. They protected the brick
coping and our existing patio with plastic before the cement truck got
here. When the cement truck backed in they quickly got to work.
For the far edges they put the cement into wheelbarrows and rolled it over.
The first pass of cement smoothing was done with a 2x4.
Then the trowel guys got to work on their hands and knees smoothing things out further.
One guy had a little tool that looked like a big potato masher. He
tapped the cement all over working out air bubbles and covering up the
food prints he was making in the fresh cement.
Then came the tool I like to call the "super smoother".
They let it sit for a bit, then a couple guys measured and marked where the contraction joints would go.
Then the joints were cut into the cement. Let's hope they do their thing so we don't have any cracks in our nice deck!
They continued to smooth things out on the now (apparently) somewhat hard cement.
They put up some caution tape that really wouldn't do much to keep any child or beast
lacking common sense, of which we have both, off the wet cement before
they left. It was a nice gesture anyway.
This is what it looked like when they were done.
Looking good, don't you think?
Left to do: Clean-up, Fencing, Deck Finish, Inspection, Interior Finish, and First Swim(!)

That is super cool Shelly- it is looking fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so nice. It's amazing how these guys do what they do and in a relatively short period of time. As I recall, you said that replaces the cool deck, right? Do they treat it with something so that it doesn't get so hot on the feet?
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's getting closer to adding the water, yesssssss.
