One of the hardest parts about moving is finding a new church. I had asked a fellow homeschooler if there were any churches around where we might find some other homeschoolers in attendance. So the first church we've tried was one of the churches she suggested. It was interesting. Not in bad way, just different.
We ended up going into the service a bit late because we had to register the five boys on the church's computer system before they could go to Sunday School. They had a bank of four computers there just for that purpose and we got key chain tags so in the future we can just scan the kids in. Once checked in, each kid gets a computer printed name sticker with a number code on it and the parent has to have the "receipt" to pick them up. I'm not sure if all churches around here do this or not. It was quite an experience!
The rest of church (worship and sermon) were pretty similar to what we are used to. More of a light show and a bit louder music. We did see a few other fifteen passenger vans in the parking lot, so that was encouraging! Since we were so busy figuring out where to get everyone settled and picked up we didn't really get a chance to meet too many people.
I will say they are definitely geared towards having guests and new people though. They had a nice reception area with coffee and snacks that was packed with people chatting both before and after the service. There were several people with lanyards around their necks that said "I Can Help" and there were signs everywhere directing you where to go. We were greeted warmly and several people asked if this was our first time attending. Both the pastor and youth pastor stopped to greet us as well. I'm not sure why (ha ha!), but we seem to get noticed when we go places. :) We got several comments on the boys matching shirts.
When we got home we ate a quick lunch and turned on football. Some of us had naps...
... because weekends are hard work!

Didn't mention if you'll be going back to that church. Where is it? After all the stuff you went through to get them registered, you might want to see what you signed up for! Is it close to Dad and I?
ReplyDeleteNaps are always a good idea - no matter what's on tv.
