Anniversary Wishes

July 27th was our 18th wedding anniversary. I though it was nice that Facebook sent me a little card…

I didn't get a card from Jerry but he posted this on Facebook, which was even better!

"Shelly unlike this tree, our love can weather any storm. Happy anniversary."

Second First Egg

Got the first egg from the 2014 chickens today. I have to say it was not as exciting as the first egg last year. Since it is white it is from one of the White Leghorns. We'll never know which one! I haven't found any little brown ones yet so I don't think the Barred Rocks are laying yet. It will be interesting to have white eggs in the fridge after a year of only brown!

Update:

Got our first little brown egg from one of the new Barred Rock gals this evening.

Field Trip: Fry's Tour 2014

Last year we went on a tour of Basha's grocery store, this year we toured Fry's. I didn't take too many pictures, but we had a great time. The gal doing the tour did an awesome job and we got to see all the behind the scenes parts of a grocery store.

As we walked around each department our tour guide kept tossing items into our shopping cart. At the end of the tour we got to take the items home! They were very generous! We were there with 2 other families so we split everything up. We ended up with all kinds of things: string cheese, apples, water bottles, watermelon, cookies, cereal, mac & cheese. We each got a rose from the floral department, between mine and the six kids we had a very nice bouquet to take home.

Each of the kids got a good bag with a pencil, ruler, notepad, and even a match box car too. It was a great time and even though Annabeth had to miss her nap we were glad we went.

Adventures with Annabeth

Let's see what Annabeth has been up to…

May 2, 2014 - Annabeth was excited to get a pair of pink gloves and sunglasses from the dollar store. Ever since she saw the movie Frozen she has loved to wear gloves. The sunglasses are just an added bonus!

June 7, 2014 - Annabeth enjoys a good video chat with Grandma Linda. On this particular day she set up a tea party with Grandma.

June 8, 2014 - I am not one to usually wear toe nail polish, but I had my mom paint my toenails while we were on vacation in Wisconsin. Annabeth asked to have her toenails painted too. So, when we got back to Arizona I bought a bottle of cheap, pink nail polish and painted her toes for the first time. She was super excited!

June 17, 2014 - I called this photo "Silence is NOT golden, it is green." While the rest of the household was busy Annabeth got into the markers and colored herself a nice shade of green. It was washable marker but took a good few minutes of scrubbing to come off in the tub. I should have taken a picture of the water when she got out!

July 12, 2014 - If we can't find Annabeth we can usually find her on the back patio carrying around the cat. Thankfully he is the sweetest, most patient cat and just hangs from her arms until she sets him down again.

Accidental Twins

As we were walking out the door to get some lunch at In N Out we realized Annabeth and I were accidental twins.

Interesting Evening

It was a rather uneventful day. Can't say the same about this evening…

Eli lost his glasses while playing at a neighbors house. He took them off to try on a mask and then couldn't find them. The neighbor dad called on the phone to let us know Eli was upset and they had all been looking. Thankfully, he does have a spare pair. So he came home to eat dinner and then went back with several brothers to continue the search, but the glasses were not found.

I called Wesley home from the glasses search to keep an eye on Annabeth while Jerry and I went to take care of the another neighbor's animals (we're feeding/watering 1 horse, 2 goats, 3 dogs, 6 cats, 2 kittens, 1 goose, 1 duck, and 8 chickens for them while they are on vacation). Things were going well until I found one of their chickens dead in the coop. No known cause. Just dead. While we were there a dust storm picked up. The first one of the season and it was a doozy! Both Jerry and I ate a pound a dust.

While we were gone, Wesley and JD had to gather up all the suits and towels that were blowing around outside when the storm started. Wesley also had to grab the (now-broken) umbrella that was blowing all over the place after we left open in the pool area.

Jerry and I couldn't even see 10 feet in front of us on the short car ride home from the neighbors. We were met at the door by Wesley, JD, and Annabeth who excitedly told us about the storm craziness that was happening here while we were a few doors down.

I used the walkie talkie to check on Eli, Justus, and Hayden. They took shelter at the neighbors when the storm started. Eli was concerned because he had to leave his bike behind in the field where they had been playing when the storm hit. They ended up waiting a few minutes until things settled a bit and then came home - still without the missing glasses. Hayden was upset and crying because the storm scared him and he wasn't sure if they could find the way home.

JD opened the back kitchen door at the same time Eli was coming in the garage door and with the wind blowing like crazy the pressure change caused the kitchen door to slam so hard that a decorative plate fell off the wall, hit the tile floor and smashed right as the dog was coming into the kitchen. Now the dog won't step foot in the kitchen. (Yes, we got a dog. That will be another post!)

The pool was (still is!) a disaster. Jerry pulled a half trash can of leaves out already and there will be lots more pool clean up tomorrow. While Jerry was cleaning the pool, I fed and watered out chickens. Thankfully, they are all fine and I hope whatever caused the neighbor's chicken to die isn't contagious.

We all (well not Hayden and the dog) enjoyed a few sprinkles, the dropping temperatures, and the lightning for a bit before going in to get everyone to bed. Annabeth then proceeded to throw a fit because a Curious George episode she watched today had scary sounds in a basement and she was sure there was something scary in her room. She wouldn't go to sleep without the light left on.

Just as we were kissing the boys good night, the door bell rang. It was the neighbor boy. He had found Eli's glasses under his dresser. We thanked him and sent the kids to bed. So at least the night ended on a good note. Now I'm enjoying the silence and in a minute I'm going to sneak in and turn off Annabeth's light and hope for the best! Shhhhh!
